Lil' old me was highlighted today on Lookbook by Onada. (If it were possible I would be blushing.)

Onada is a fabulous photographer, businesswoman, fashionista, and all around great girl who I became friends with after she did my engagement pictures last year. Through her unbelievable ambition and work ethic she has since been a huge inspiration to me to get out there and start pursuing my heart's desire, namely starting a business and pursuing photography. Sunny Haralson was born in a house of ill repute. After acing the first grade, she ran away to join the circus. At night, while the elephants slept, she learned how to spin and sew from the spiders. My thoughts are starting to turn towards the holidays and what am I going to do about gift wrapping. Gift wrapping is a major thing for me. I love to wrap packages and each year I try to do something creative and different. Last year my color scheme was orange, brown, and green and I did multiple layers of wrapping paper on each gift to create pops of color and add a little more depth. This year I am trying to decide on my color theme and what supplies I would like to use. I am seriously toying with doing a more homey theme with brown paper bag wrapping, bakers twine, and layering handmade tags. But I still have time and there is so much to choose from.

I work from home full time and up until this point I have been using my digital calendar in Outlook and on my Mac. I miss the days of when I was working in a cubicle and bought multiple wall calendars as a way to dress up my little space. We do have art hanging in the home office and an every changing display of inspiration photos and notes on our magnet board, but I miss the joy of selecting an annual calendar and the pleasure of changing out images the first of each month.

As the weather turns to fall I am planning on outfitting the house with autumn decor. I am working on a new wreath for the door in a nice golden brown (perfect for fall) and am excited about a trip to Lowe's this weekend to get mums and pumpkins for the doorstep and deck (how lame does that sound but I am really excited about it). I think mums are highly underrated, just like carnations, and are really a great choice in flowers. The only drawback is that you can not make direct purchases through the application due to etsy's policy on releasing information to 3rd parties. (This may be a blessing in disguise! Giving me the ability to shop etsy 24/7 could be dangerous) However, you can add listings and shops to your favs as long as you have made those public.

Our Wedding

Our wedding was everything we imagined and more. I can not gush enough about how it was one of the greatest days of my life. I was surrounded by the people who mean the most to me while I begun the newest journey of my life with a wonderful handsome loving man.

I will share with you the teaser pick from our photographer Edmund Moon of Daily Thousand Words. And yes this is etsy related because the gardenia that is adorning my hair was purchased from the seller dkdesignshawaii (her prices have since gone up since I purchased mine). The flower was so light weight that I forgot it was in my hair. And a funny note about the flower is that when I saw my bridesmaid for the first time she was wearing two of the same ones in her hair. (Though she and I on the surface are different in our styles we often wind up buying a lot of the same items.)

I am in countdown mode to the wedding (only 24 days left) and things are getting a little hectic trying to tie up DIY projects, make our final payments, revising timelines, and all the other little minutiae that goes along with wedding planning.

So in the next couple of posts will probably highlight sellers and items that I have purchased for the wedding. (It just makes my life easier right now and plus I really want to hype the sellers whose artistry and workmanship will go into making our day special.)

I was pleasantly surprised a couple of months ago to find out that there are a slew of people on etsy that sell underwear. Yes handmade underwear. (Once again, what can't you find on etsy?) I was captivated by the beautiful lovelies of the shop OntheInside. Not being a big fan of lingerie I prefer less frilly more practical items. I think the items in her shop strike a good balance of the two. They are soft, feminine, comfortable, and sexy but not over the top frilly and definitely not raunchy or cheap.

Etsy Family Tree

I am so excited this morning. My wedding gift to my mother and uncle finally arrived today.

I was really torn as to what to get them since they are difficult to shop for. My uncle has very distinctive tastes and leans towards more refined and exotic items from his years living overseas. And my mother has very simple tastes and is never demanding or picky. Yet I wanted this gift to be something special and meaningful to both of them.

A couple of years ago my uncle and I really bonded through researching our family genealogy and we even took a trip to our family's birthplace in Milledgeville Georgia. Researching African American family roots is a challenge and also interesting because you never know what you may uncover given the history of the "peculiar institution" that was slavery. Until we undertook that research we knew very little of our family history and could only go back 2 generations and even that was sketchy. However, through our research we were able to fully flesh out 5 generations of the family tree and connect with old as well as new cousins and relatives.

So when I contracted GracefulStudio to do a family tree for my mother and uncle, it was so important that I got a vendor that could execute it a beautiful manner.

Amy was wonderful! She gave me so many choices in terms of ink and paper color and her calligraphy was just beautiful. When I saw the added scrolls and florals on the envelope of samples to me I knew I made the right choice.

I am anxious to take it the frame shop to get it matted and framed for the big day. (Will definitely post a pic)

I was browsing on etsy this morning (really I was making a purchase on etsy this morning) and I came across this wonderful shop. Everyeskimo appears to sell some real vintage gems and some of their items have a hint of quirkiness that makes them unique and real conversation pieces. Plus a lot of their items are stand out pieces for decor and would really give your home an added element of retro flare.

Yesterday was my birthday. Happy Birthday to me.

Well I am a big fan of the show Mad Men and part of the reason is my love of 50's vintage clothing. Well a few months ago I was so pleased to come across the seller porshesplace who specializes in creating custom dresses from vintage patterns. Since I had a couple of events to attend I thought it would be great to contract with her to create something for me. She has a multitude of patterns to choose from which makes it difficult to choose just one since they are all so lovely. But once you choose a pattern, Femia of porshesplace directs you to a website where you can choose your fabric. I choose Amy Butler fabrics for both of my dresses since I think that a lot of her large scale print patterns have a vintage feel. Femia has a little picture that aides in showing you how to take your measurements, but if you are nervous about getting them right you can always go to tailor and have it done professionally. Then its a matter of waiting. The turn around is generally 4-6 weeks.

Nothing feels better than taking your dress out of the box, putting it on and twirling around with your full skirt and crinolines. Now most of the dresses can be worn without a crinoline but if you want to look like Betty Draper I highly recommend investing in the crinoline.

Femia does excellent workmanship, is easy to work with, and definitely has my business for future orders.

Also since I bought multiple dresses Femia gave me a little thank you gift :)

Family Tree

Calligraphy

I am in the process of designing my parent gifts for my wedding. Me being a big genealogy nut and the keeper of the family history thought a perfect gift would be a lovely family tree with names done by hand in calligraphy.

Now I am a big fan of lovely handwriting and take great pains in my own penmanship. It was a huge disappoint that we could not fit calligraphy into my upcoming wedding, however, this project will let me have it. (Yipeee!)

It's only fair that I share with you my etsy purchases.

I was so inspired by the post on maps that I bought an item from one of the sellers (this blog is only feeding my obsession). I had been looking for a travel journal to use for my upcoming honeymoon and I thought the beautiful journals created by kristincrane would be perfect.

I was so pleased with the finished object, the workmanship was excellent and the price was too. She worked with me to get the map so that it not only highlighted Savannah but also the small town Milledgeville where my family is from in Georgia. The journal also came in a plastic protective case which is great to have so it won't get banged around and damaged before and after use.

I now have a journal that will perfectly compliments all our mementos and memories from our trip.

I originally started this post about vintage ephemera (which I will post about later) but I found myself getting sidetracked looking at vintage maps and all the lovelies artists have crafted with them. It takes me back to 7th grade Geography and my weekly assignment of drawing maps. It was something so magical about drawing all the lines and curves of a distant coast line and filling in the cities with exotic names and imaging what they must be like. I may not be able to go all around the world to every country but maps are the next best thing.

On the List - New Feature

I decided to start a new feature and highlight items that are on my short list of items I seriously want to buy. The list constantly being reprioritized and some items sit on the list a long time while I debate back and forth whether I should splurge on the item.

Here is one that I think is very stylish, simple, clean and versatile. I can see myself sporting this to a number of different things. For all those reasons I have had my eye on it a while. Sometimes I like to marinate a while before making a purchase, which is why shopping at the mall is sometimes a slow process for me.
